So, this is where film production gets REALLY fun.
A few years ago, when I was working on He Leadeth Me, I met a man named Kurtis who lived in the Twin Cities area. He introduced me to his friend Joel, producer of the film Priceless and founder/CEO of Kingdom Media Production in Nashville. When I was searching for a Director of Photography for my film, I asked Joel if there was anyone he knew in Minnesota who would have connections. He directed me to an individual who had some names. That person emailed those names and told me that if any of them were interested in my project, THEY would get back to me.
One person responded.
And his name was Chad.
He shared his website and reel with me. I was in tears. It was exactly the kind of beauty I was looking for. My producer and I scheduled a video call with him. Only minutes into the meeting I knew he’d be somebody I’d know and share creative ideas with forever.
Chad was too busy to work for us, but he hired me a few times to work on his commercial sets. Maybe regrettably, on his end. I’m a much better director than a boom operator. I’m horrible at pretending to know how to use a teleprompter. But, I had so much fun working with him because it was the first time that I had just ONE job on somebody else’s set!! It was sweet relief in the middle of such a stressful production of my own. I enjoyed excellent company, visited the Twin Cities (which I rarely get to do alone), met a few Metro actors, and ate SUPER good food.
Thanks to Chad.
But, it gets even more interesting. Not long after working with him, I got a message from my good friend Sonja. She and I went to high school together and graduated in 1999. She simply said, “How do you know Chad and Brenda? They’re my friends!”
HOW FUNNY is it that God weaves people together, spinning us around, making us look up at the opportunities in front of us, connecting us with people in the city to Nashville to the city to home again? In such a roundabout way I met this beautiful couple and have absolutely ENJOYED spending time with them! And, I had a connection to them long before I even knew their names!
But, this is what I love most of all: in the Church, we delight in meeting more people of God. Why? 1) We need each other. 2) We don’t feel so quite alone. 3) We believed that we are destined for the same Ending.
That truth connects us far better than any networking.
In Christ Jesus, we are more than just acquaintances. We are brothers and sisters. And we ALL get to go home together! Maybe not at the same time, but together.
You know what else? Covid sucks. This year, my heart just broke for sweet Brenda and Chad and their family. Brenda’s dad passed away from this awful disease. It isn’t fair. It’s not right. I still get emotional about it.
But what I love, too, is that Chad and Brenda know that we walk a path of Hope straight to Jesus. Just like Brenda’s dad.
Just like Joel.
Just like Kurtis.
And just like me.
Thank you, Jesus, for your Family. We can’t wait to meet EVERYBODY someday!
